Now now you guys, I really hate it when discussion of ideas turns into nothing more than verbal abuse. In an effort to redirect energies of those posting and to join in the present debate without having to read the entire thread I'm going to start with the most important idea(IMO).

"The anthropomorphic God(s) depicted and portrayed in our history/mythologies has prevented the human race from advancing to a higher level of being. "

Solon, I'm of the opinion that you could effectively replace "anthropomorphic God(s)" with religion in general, in your opening statement. This I could agree on without reservation as history has proven this to be true. As proof I give you the ancient Athens city state roughly from 600-300BC, (Solon, your alias selection isn't lost on me). One of the few times and places in history that religion had its weakest hold on society. During this period man made more intellectual progress than at any other time in the ancient world and produced the likes of Thales, Anaximander, Pythagoras, Anaxagoras, Socrates, Empedocles, Hippocrates, Democritus, Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Aristarchus, Archimedes. Unfortunately, many of the things man learned during this period would be ruthlessly suppressed by religion until the renaissance. This in itself may have set mankind back over 1500 years!
