If you think back to when Vietnam was French Indochina there was no NVA to hide in the jungle either.

There was something that resembled the NVA. France never completely reestablished itself in Vietnam again after WWII. The Vietnamese communists had a real army. Dien Bien Phu was not a guerilla raid. It was a straight up battle and the French lost.

Check back in a few years when Iraq has split up into multiple political regions and anti-western forces have taken over one or more regions with a little help from Sunni Syria or Shia Iran.

If that happens it will only happen after we leave. If we do leave I don't think we are going to go back. We aren't going to be both the French and Americans in this "Vietnam". We won't be the French because we won't be defeated the way they where. The absolute worst case scenario is that we are defeated in the strategic sense by leaving and than having the government we supported fall like what happened in Vietnam, but unless we show less determination that we did in Vietnam that won't happen. Our enemy in this case is less powerful and supported.

This Vietnam has only just begun.

"Sunniland" would make a poor excuse for North Vietnam.
