Whatever the differences in circumstances the war has become a quagmire in the same sense as Vietnam. What was once expected to be a war of 5-6 months duration is now up to ten years. I think its unfair for any people to have to fight a war for ten years or more.

Before 10 years (or 7) I think there will either be peace, relative peace some degree of instability and occasional violence but not a wide scale active insurgency, or we will at least have built up the Iraqi government forces enough for them to handle the war by themselves. I suspect the 2nd choice is the most likely. Things will become much more peaceful in Iraq but like Northern Ireland had over a period of decades, there will still be occasional violence and terrorism.
