Who said there is no Soviet Union? It still exists but it went through a downsizing and a name change.

Russia isn't the Soviet Union. But lets say for the sake of argument that it is. Do you really think the US is going to lose a huge chunk of territory soon, and have its system of government changed around in a major way, and have its name changed in the next decade or two?

Please stop being anal in your need for specificity. One country's decline is not another country's demise. Like people, each country is different and each country goes down differently. Already money needed for other things like education or transportation is being diverted to Iraq. And where it isn't diverted, the US debt grows.

Any person, corporation or nation that fields a large deficit and is carrying a serious debt load runs the risk of getting into trouble.

Yes we run a deficit and carry a lot of debt. I'd be happier if both or lower but if our debt level is going to cause the end of the US than I guess Japan and much of Europe is also a goner. You need to get a sense of perspective.

I didn't say it was based on today's numbers.......I am talking ten years down the road spending like we are spending today. As for Japan and Europe, each is very different in their financial makeup..........both but esp. Japan can carry considerably more debt than we can.

Morale is low but its not as low as the Soviets.

Its not low.

Yes. It is. Don't listen to Fox or the conservative blogs. More and more reports are stating that soldiers are suffering from poor morale. More and more guys are coming back with PTSS. Tim, this is war...what did you think would happen? People are going to be all happy year after year? Get a clue......things are not good in Iraq.

That's true but I don't think that was the factor that brought the Soviets down.

It was a major factor in Afghanistan.

Tim, stop trying to be right. I said it was a factor in Afghanistan but its not what brought the Soviet Union down.

Who's relying on my gut?

You are.

We have two years of experience.

None of which provides solid support to your conclusions.

You're in denial.
