"Where is this torture shit coming from?" As you note, there have always been loose cannons. But this is structural, else it wouldn't be so pervasive. There is definitely an end-justifies-the-means crowd that has too much sway in the military now. I don't want to believe it but I know you are right. It is structural......its been reported everywhere just as the Koran and the toilet stuffings happened in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as Gitmo. I am not naive.....I know torture is a part of military interrogation...particularly psychological torture. I never thought that it was to be used to satisfy the fantasies and bloodlust of individuals in the military. I never thought they would torment and continue to torture dying people. I never thought that kind of thinking was so pervasive in the American culture.
