The following is opinion, not fact:

Your forcast for Sun Microsystems fate is depends on Sun not changing their vision of the future. I'm willing to bet they already have. They did it before when they transitioned from the 68000 to the Spark chip. IMHO the introduction of Sun Microsystems products using Intel's Merced CPU will spark a new wave of growth for Sun Microsystems.

Sun understood the significance of the network of computers long before anyone else did. They have experience with enterprise computing that Compaq, with Tandem, must envy. The biggest impediment to sales of Sun workstations is incompatibility with Microsoft Office.

IMHO it would be a big mistake to sell someone with Scott McNealy's record and proven experience short.
