Because if we are in a war, we are in the war as a country. I don't see where only some people due to their lack of wealth or political influence are the ones to make sacrifices. Yeah, it'd be nice if there was a sufficient number of volunteers, but there almost certainly won't be. And for someone to say "I support this war and feel that we need to fight it" and turn around and say "but I can't fight because I have other priorities" is awfully elitist. That is the same sort of attitude that Leona Helmsly has. If a war is important enough to fight, it is important enough to risk your life or those of your loved ones. If it isn't, then it isn't important to fight it.

During Vietnam, many of its biggest supporters made sure that they or their kids didn't have to fight. That is fundamentally unfair. If you can't understand that, I don't really know what to say.
