Giving away the lead in developing new technologies, and now bagging stem cell research.

Bad for business, eh? A whole lot of countries are going to get rich developing alt en, and we will end up buying from them. Sounds like it is good for business. I think the profitable companies are going to be the ones who recognize the cost of energy, and either minimize their own use, or develop products to take advantage of the new world. Like the Japanese are doing with cars. Like Detroit isn't doing with cars.
Companies have also found out that combating waste and emissions is profitable. More efficient use of their inputs translates into profits. Waste translates into expenditures. Seems simple to me.
Don't worry about stem cells. The Republic of California has your butt covered ;-). We'll get rich; the red states won't.
Maybe we won't even send them cells :-)
