The Hitler Double Standard

PoliPundit.com

I wrote here Friday that it isn’t big news when a Democrat compares a Republican to Hitler because they do it so often.

I have listened to Democrats make the comparisons of Bush to Hitler for four years now and at some point it just stopped being shocking anymore. I would even go so far as to say it is no longer “news” when a politician compares anyone to Hitler. It should be, because it is a stupid thing to say, and it is not something a U.S. Congressman or Senator should be spouting. But think about it, if something happens on a daily basis, is it news anymore?

If the media had reported all the times Democrats pulled out the Bushitler line in the past four years they would have had no time left to report on really important things, like the Michael Jackson trial and the Runaway Bride
. It is no longer news to report the Democrats’ Hitler references, but it is news when a Republican uses one. I guess that shows for which party the use of such language is out of character.

Patterico found a perfect example of this at the NYT.
