My pleasure- when you try to agree, with the other poster, that liberals "tend to be supporters of gay rights"- I think that helps push buttons for conservatives, and it is unnecessary to state it that way, since it is only a very partial truth. I think both you, and your conversant, would understand "liberals" better, if you cast it as "liberals tend to be supporters of equal rights and privileges for everyone"- to cast it as "support" for one position (imo) unnecessarily polarizes the whole thing from the outset, because of the way the language is used. IMO Because you use the phrase "supporters of gay rights", and you use it right up front, you immediately make it about gay rights, no matter what comes later, because the negation just can't overcome that front loading.
