FUZHOU, May 22 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 100 experts and scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Straits gathered in Fuzhou on Sunday to attend a forum cross-Straits economic cooperation, capital of east China's Fujian Province.
Topics to be discussed at the two-day forum will include cross-Straits cooperation in harbor, logistics, tourism, industrial upgrading and finance.
The economies on the both sides of the Taiwan Straits complement each other and there is much room for cooperation between the two sides, according to experts attending the forum.
At the same time, the economies of the two sides also have differences. Taiwan has the advantage in funds, technology, business management and operation, high productivity and developedservice industry. The mainland abounds in labor resources, rich natural resources and a larger space for development.
Taiwan's traditional and new and developing industries began landing the mainland since the 1980s.
Customs statistics show that cross-Straits trade volume totaled 19.05 billion US dollars in the first quarter, up 13.4 percent over last year's same period. China's mainland had approved 64,900 Taiwanese-funded businesses by the end of March and used 40.33 billion US dollars in Taiwanese investment. Enditem Related Story |
