Why take risks? It is my impression that many money managers have a big incentive to take huge risks -- after all, it's other people's money. When the gambles pay off, they get a share of the gains in bonuses. When their gambles bomb, they probably get a golden parachute package and go work elsewhere. With many people playing this kind of game, it is a recipe for a financial blowup.
