Elmer,

My only question with Intel claiming world class yileds is
what defines the 'class'. From the perspective of wafer
starts and die output, does anyone match Intel in
manufacturing capability? Are they in a class of one? I
realize that AMD and Intel both claim world class yields
but I've never heard anyu other fab claim that. Given the
disparity of manufacturing capability and volume output,
how can there be a comparison of AMD and Intel (or others)?

Regards,
Mike.

PS I have a spreadsheet you might be interested in that
can estimate the cost of a processed wafer given all of the
steps required and the individual overhead costs. Interested?
(It's quite large - I think it's from Sematech)
