From a clinical point of view: Compared to a day when a male patient drinks so heavily that they are deadly if they drive, cannot function at work, sleep (at best) when home or (at worst) are assaultive/abusive to their spouses and children: four drinks a day is indeed a non-heavy day. While it would provide a level of function not to our taste, it would be a considerable improvement for them and their families. I am not yet convinced that Vivitrex is going to be a big moneymaker (though I don't claim to have followed it closely at all), but that doubt is based more on reimbursement hassles and the general lack of treatment compliance seen with this population.

The fact is that most psychiatric drugs provide improvement--for most patients--up to a level of function that most of us would still consider subpar. Those increments can mean a lot to the patients and their significant others.
