[VDSL thoughts]

I was going to suggest "Mb" stands for megabomb, but that's really an old joke. There's so much more going on, it's hardly worth our breath any more.

Going through some old notes this week-end, I notice several comments about VDSL as the big market in the future. Any thoughts on this? If you were looking at urban markets, for example, would you use ADSL or VDSL? I'm not asking leading questions, I really want to know. I'm in one of those quests where I started out asking the price of apples in Redmond and ended up looking at sheep in Manhattan. How did I get here and what does it mean????

Remember when we used to say cable wasn't a threat in the corporate market because it was primarily installed for residential customers? But what about dark fiber? Don't major cities have it running to all the major buildings? And if so, who are we talking about? MCI? Sprint? GTE? MFS? Teleport? ConEd? Help me out, here, I'm way out of my depth.

Not long ago I posted what The National Grid Group's Energis subsidy is doing in the UK. Couldn't that also be happening here on this side of the Big Pond?

How about some energy guys jumping in with some updates. You've got all those rights of ways that are potential gold mines, right? What are you doing with them?

Okay, take it away ---

Pat
