"What politician can get elected vowing to cut federal programs in their home state?" Believe you have just put your finger on why the Federal government always grows bigger and bigger, and the deficits higher and higher: politicians don't have the GUTS to stand up for what is right, and they are too craven to trust the basic wisdom and goodness of the American public. And, it sounds like you surrendered to a wasteful Authoritarian Big Government long ago.... Sad....
