Snowshoe, Thanks for the link! Love Civil War stuff. With a little luck we would have won. <g>

I'm not a gun nut. I don't carry a gun in my car or a pistol in my pocket and never did. When I go into a rough place a gun doesn't make me feel safer. When I was younger and somewhat of a brawler I enjoyed the challenge of disarming a drunk bully, nearly got my head blown off that way once. I'm not much of a hunter. I do carry a sharp knife though. <g>

But I DO think that being armed is the very highest of civic duties. Our founders though so too. Just read their writings. If the people are armed it is more difficult to the point of impossibility for an abusive government to arise.

The fact that gun control is item number one on the agenda of socialist movements everywhere is all the proof of the internationalist nature of socialism a logical person needs. The fact that the US population remains armed is a big burr under the saddle of socialists everywhere, especially those here who call themselves "liberals".

Widespread gun ownership is one of the truly unique things about the US and accounts for much of our sucess and prosperity and the stability of the government here. It is the ultimate check and balancer of government excess. No other place in the world compares in this regard.

Tiny Switzerland does in a way, though gun possession there is more related to lifelong military obligation than personal ownership, but even that has preserved the country as an island of peace and prosperity even as bloody warfare raged just beyond every frontier.

If you don't have a gun go buy one and learn to use it. Then just lock the thing up in your closet. It is your civic duty.
