Of course, the price of oil and natural gas is determined by market forces. Certainly companies producing oil and gas want high prices - they wanted them back when oil plunged to $12/bbl too. Didn't matter what they wanted then and doesn't now. A majority of oil and natural gas reserves are concentrated in countries with national oil company monopolies (Mexico, SA, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait) and countries which discourage foreign investment (Russia, Venezuela).
