Los Angeles has no competing MLS other than CLAW (Combined Los Angeles Westside). There are other reciprocating MLS systems for adjoining areas, such as the San Fernando Valley, and Pasadena.

Ten years ago the two largest brokers in Los Angeles started a competing system CLS (California Listing Service) to basically either light a fire under CLAW or put them out of their misery. But it forced a radical rework of CLAW, which is now probably first in technology in the nation. They also cut their cost more than 50% so Jon Douglas and Fred Sands closed CLS having accomplished what they intended.

There is just suddenly a large number of homes for sale that are not in the MLS. No one I've talked to knows why.
