[LU, ADI and TI]

<<<Lucent expects to see first silicon in October, with production planned for late 1998. . . . >>>

<<<TI hopes to achieve full-rated specs before year's end, said Henry Wiechman, C6X product marketing manager, and expects to be in production by early next year. That would still give the company a comfortable lead over Lucent.

TI also plans not to be caught in the fixed-vs.-float argument. The company is also implementing the Velociti architecture in a 32-bit floating-point line, the TMS320C7X, also planned for release in the fourth quarter. Further details were not available. >>>>

If LU makes its targets with the same precision as the other chip makers, TI's lead could remain fairly comfortable.

Actually I like Lucent and want them to succeed, especially if they start doing DMT. Which I've said all along I think they'll do.

Good article.

Cheers from sunny slightly breezy Del Mar!
