Leading voices in America's "peace" movement are actually cheering against self-determination for a long-suffering Third World country because they hate George W. Bush more than they love freedom.

He is right that I hate GWB more than I love "freedom," whatever the hell that word is supposed to mean, but he is very wrong in arguing that the Iraqis are enjoying "self-determination" given that they have 140,000 foreign troops in their nation.

I don't really give a rat's ass (no offense intended, wharfy) about the Iraqis and their freedom or lack thereof, and don't see it as an issue ... given that I have never been to Iraq, will never go to Iraq, and have never even met an Iraqi, there's no reason why I should be concerned with Iraq's affairs.

The author entirely misses the point which is that it is the actions of the U.S. that the left is concerned with, not the well-being of the Iraqis. It is not the fact that Iraqis are dying by the bushel that concerns us, it is the fact that they are dying by the bushel and that our nation is the proximate cause of their deaths.

I will gladly help Mr. Thompson pack his bags.
