Bob; We may see a posture war, each side shakes it's sabers, and beats it's war drums with their clubs as a prelude to serious talks.
I think both IBM and Motorola know the folly of a closed platform, and can be expected to auger against it. IBM and Motorola can strangle Apple for chips(pricewise) and so they have powerful clubs. In fact both do not need Apple at all, it is the potential they want, and if APple acts(as a complete proprietary platform would) to kill it, they could just decide to stop playing Job's games.
Be an interesting discussion.
