Thank you for posting the Sutro recommendations on AMD.
The recap of events, post the IBM announcement that they would support and sell AMD's K-6, followed by AMD's announcement less than a week later that AMD would not be profitable in the 3rd Quarter because they could not supply enough K-6 chips, has me very perplexed.

As you know I own many IBM Put contracts. As such, I have watched IBM quite closely over the last several months and find it difficult to understand how IBM has held its own in view of events like the above. Do you suppose:

1-- IBM knew that AMD would not be able to supply them with K-6 chips, until late in Q4, when they announced their intent to sell the K-6?
2-- Was IBM sandbagged when AMD made their embarrassing admissions only a week following IBM's announcement?
3-- Will other Tier 1 OEM's be willing to support selling the K-6 given AMD's uncertainty, or inability to supply enough chips to meet demand?
4-- Would IBM still have made its announcement if they knew that there might be yield problems with the .25 micron K-6 chips?
5-- What does this say about IBM's management not to have known of possible AMD problems?
6-- What does this say about AMD's management not to have divulged that they might be experiencing yield problems with the K-6?

Any help that you can give me in understanding what is going on with IBM and AMD would be most appreciated, including: how can IBM afford to support so many PC products? and more important, what has been keeping IBM's stock price up?
Regards,
Jules
