China's cell phone users at 353 mln, fixed-line 329 mln by end-April - Xinhua 05.25.2005, 12:25 AM BEIJING (AFX) - China's total mobile phone users increased 19.6 pct year-on-year to 353.71 mln in April, and fixed-line users increased 15.4 pct to 329.47 mln, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Ministry of Information Industry. In the first four months, revenue from the telecommunications sector -- including both mobile and fixed-line operations -- rose 9.8 pct year-on-year to 184.88 bln yuan, Xinhua said. Penetration rates across China were at 25.9 pct for mobile phones and 24.9 pct for fixed-line services. The higher mobile phone penetration rate boosted growth of wireless value-added services such as short messages, multimedia messages, wireless application protocol, mobile games and interactive voice response, Xinhua said, without providing further details. forbes.com
