Air China To Issue CNY2 Billion Short-Term Bonds

BEIJING (Dow Jones)--Air China Ltd. (0753.HK) plans to issue CNY2 billion of short-term bonds and has selected Bank of China (BCH.YY) as its main underwriter, the bank said in a statement late Tuesday.

So far, Air China and five other unnamed local firms have submitted applications to the central bank to issue short-term bonds, said the statement, posted on Bank of China's website. It didn't elaborate.

Late on Tuesday, the central bank announced that domestic firms would be allowed to issue short-term bonds with tenors of up to 365 days. The reform is partly intended to reduce companies' reliance on bank loans, which has created high financial risk for the bank sector.
