BEIJING, May 25 -- Honeywell decided to launch the Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) R300, an upgrade of its proven automation and control platform hardware, yesterday in Beijing, ahead of the rest of Asia.

Amit Kansal, marketing director of Honeywell Process Solutions in the Asia Pacific, said the product was released in the United States just two weeks ago.

The PKS R300 is designed to meet the demands of the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, pulp paper, power, mining and mineral industries.

The company announced it will increase its research and development workforce in China from the current 1,000 at its centres in Beijing and Shanghai.

"We have already greatly strengthened our engineering and marketing teams here," said Yang Xuefeng, a senior company executive of China operations.

"China's automation industry is growing extremely fast with so much investment going on," said Harry Sim, vice-president of marketing and business development at Honeywell Process Solutions.

Honeywell's process solutions business is growing three times faster in China than in any other market, Sim added.

Although compared to global revenue of US$1.8 billion, China is still a minor market, "the gap is closing," said Kansal.

Last year, Honeywell secured a US$10 million project from Wangqu Power Plant in North China's Shanxi Province.
