The Founding Fathers were anti-Church in government.
Plain and simple. Get it?
In fact some of them sound like they were highly sceptical that anything in the Bible can be taken as fact or divine word.

And so was the founding father of the GOP Abraham Lincoln and the founding father of modern conservatism Barry Goldwater. Both anti church in government. Goldwater was particular irate at the religious right for trying to dictate what he considered phony morality.
