I remember when I was a kid and the two top wrestlers in The Bay Area were Ray Stevens, a major heel, and Pepper Gomez, a nice Mexican guy. Pepper would beat Ray like a drum, but Ray would cheat and win the match. Everybody loved Pepper and hated Ray. One afternoon I walked into a diner in San Leandro and saw Ray and Pepper having lunch together. It shattered my illusions. Actually, I knew it was fake even then. Roller Derby I thought was real, but not wrestling.
