Kurds get recent mention, well for them the situation is turned around - they are the indigenous of Kurdistan, having lost it only twenty or so years ago in Saddam's arabisation programme ... by the way, i learned since N's and my last discussion of the topic, that many shi'a arabs were imported at that time to Kurdistan, not only sunni arabs ... not that that matters ... if the kurds are smart, they won't mistreat those resident arabs who have committed no crimes, certainly stolen property must be restored, but once that is accomplished it would go better with them if/when they take an inclusivist approach to their self-rule ... were they also to treat the turkomen as equal before their laws, they just might help liberate their ethnic fellows inside Turkey, in ways more meaningful than by adjusting borders
They should just enjoy the fact of their autonomy, and forgo ideas of 'independence' ... they're better off within an iraqui confederation, given how intensely the turks feel about it .... same as the taiwanese, who should mouth regular platitudes in re their being 'part of China', and enjoy the reality of true autonomy until the chinese catch up to them with a programme of humanisation .... just practical political realities, that take the least skin off of anybody's nose |
