NatureBuoy~

I'll give it a good test this weekend.
We are leaving tomorrow morning.

Well, you might want to take along a can
of the Deep Woods stuff as well in case
they are *really* bad and you end up
cursing me for steering you to the
"mosquito light" alternative. (-:

I checked, and the latest stuff we've been using
has Neem oil in it. Mr. Croc thinks it smells
fine, but I find the smell of it a little odd.
However, after awhile, I don't notice it too much.
Most of the people I hang out with either don't
use repellents, or they use herbal type mixes.
I think the general consensus is that they work
(within reason), but you have to apply them
more often and probably use with a combination
of mosquito-proof clothes. Btw, when I have
used Deet (been years since I have though),
I only spray it on the top of my hat and
maybe the cuffs of my sweater and bottom of
pant legs. I never spray it on my skin....
I have a lot of chemical sensitivities though
(acquired during a couple of years when I
used to repair car radiators in a shop where
there were a lot of solvents in a hot tank
and also a spray booth for painting the radiators
after they were repaired...)
so even the smell of chemical repellents makes me feel
kinda ill these days. Last summer, we went hiking on a
trail that passes along a few sections of marsh.
There was this group of young people ahead of us
and I swear that they stopped to spray themselves
with a chemical repellent about every 15 minutes.
The smell from them was so strong that even when
we walked slowly and let them get about 10 minutes
ahead of us on the trail, we could smell the
repellent hanging in the air as we walked along.
It was really pretty unpleasant.
Luckily, they eventually stopped to have a picnic,
so we kept walking and put a bunch of distance
between us so that we were breathing fresh air
for the rest of the walk.
