Mike (uw), you asked if there were examples of national political polls in which the weighting seemed to increase the Rep proportions in the analysis. In the last election cycle, the one that stuck out was Gallup, though as you may recall, the weighting was both controversial and variable. Between national polls and state polls and god knows what else, it was always difficult to keep track of all of it.

Weighting itself is a professional polling issue which any given pollster should make clear what and why they are doing it. As for the media's role in it, generally, and perhaps without exception, they only buy their polling information from the national polling organizations. I'm not aware of any national media that actually owns their own polling organization any longer.

But who knows.

You are welcome to believe in conspiracies. And sometimes they no doubt exist. But it's beyond unlikely in this case.
