| Beat the crowd and nominate yourself, it gets it over with and you move on ... the schools thing you mention is specific to the schools, no doubt, and to the time period as well probably, and not representative of wider categories, especially not such an extremely wide category as ethnicity .... near us here there is a small country school that had a period of being known for exceptional quality of teaching ... elementary grades only, so that was easier than junior high years, still the kids there really liked to go to school, they brought projects home with them, got parents involved and going to school during class hours, lots of stuff like that, and a great glee club/music class that was fun and worth listening to [taught by a teacher about whom i could tell raunchy stories, but won't, as they'd be out of school] ... anyway, in the last five or so years the place has deteriorated, old management retired and the new ones don't get it [with some exceptions] ... this is a direct personal concern, as we now have a kid who will go to it five years out ... the place was so good fifteen years ago that people would pass up the opportunity to put their kids in french immersion, which tends here to get the cream of the teacher crop, in favour of the little school down the road ... no new ethnic distinctions here, same old mix, no political ones either [all teachers here are socialist NDPers, that's a given], just the effects of certain individuals as compared to others |
