John Last I heard, the merger between UP and SP was not final. The Transport Department opposes the merger. The merger should be finalized soon, only some fine tuning before the government approves. I've owned Union Pacific in the past but I think I'll wait to see how the merger goes before buying. BNSF on the other hand is a very interesting play, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe, known as the Santa Fe, was one of the best if not the best railway in the U.S. and its merger with Burlington Northern is proceeding smoothly.
