Laz, I believe he is trying to do something different here. I disagree with many points, but it is interesting.

I initially was pretty glad the 14 Senators last week reached a compromise. It's good to see people working together in a bipartisan fashion.

But then, I thought about it, and I don't see this as much more than a way for the Repubs to blackmail the Dems into getting their extremist judges on the bench. Do this, or we go nuclear.

OK - so they reached a nice compromise, and now that's postponed. So What? They got their 3 judges, the most radical right of the 5.

And Frist says he can always invoke the "Constitutional Option" in the future - notice how they like to rename things to make them sound better - sounds better than nuclear.

So - I see a group that likes to compromise when they get their way. Clinton tried this, with welfare reform, NAFTA, etc. - he was pretty much a moderate Republican himself on most issues - he balanced the budget even, even got a surplus!
But then they went after him anyway.

See, and Dale I hope you read this too - I think you mean well. I wish things were as you wish. But this group we have now doesn't want compromise. They want a radical change in the way things are done in the US and the World - their way.

I wish it weren't so - and we could see true compromise - but remember the Right got rid of the liberals in the Republican party. Remember there used to be some? And now they are targeting the moderates in their party too.

You can't always compromise. A compromise between Eisenhower and Hitler is impossible, or very, very ugly.

Anything for a friend. :-)

Until Dale proves otherwise, this is a clone of the Moderate Thread; ie., if you're right of Nikolai Lenin, you're a right wing extremist.
