What Friedman never understands is that to the paranoid mind, concessions are always taken as confessions of guilt, and generate no goodwill, just the opposite. Appeasement is worse than useless. These wholistic, certainly ideological, and definitely bigoted positions are precisely what Friedman's proposal intends to reduce, at least reduce their hold on the respective populations. The entire "Arab mind" school of thought makes matter worse and brings no clarity to discussions which are difficult at best. In fact, makes them far more difficult.
