We screwed up in Afghanistan. We let bin Laden escape. We let the war lords take over the country after we focused on Iraq.

We had world consensus and support for an action against AQ. In the fight against organized terror, Afghanistan was the right place to focus our efforts.

Here we could have brought the world together to fight terror, and establish a new freedom for the Afghan people. A focused world effort in Afghanistan would have lead to far more progress in the middle east than an invasion of Iraq on faulty evidence.

We went into Iraq for other reasons. It was not part of the war on terror. It was part of a war to take Saddam out of the oil equation. This kind of war does nothing but inflame the fundamentalists, and the result is an increase in terror.

A focused effort in Afghanistan would have been way more productive in the war on terror. Making Afghanistan the model for democracy in the middle east would have been better than the chaos we have in Iraq.
