This discussion started with you saying you wished I would give more attention to children and less to animals. Since I already give a lot of attention to children, I thought I would show everyone how they could, as well. While it is true that there is a lot of abuse and neglect of children in America, what exactly do you suggest I do about it as an individual? Of course I would report it to the authorities if I suspected it, but aside from that, the thing that would help with the problem would be to pay more taxes to support all of the programs that support families and children and police and rehabilitation and mental health, etc. I am one of those people who has said publicly I would like to pay more taxes for these programs. I am not sure what else I can do.

It is really easy to help child slaves and child laborers all over the world by changing the kind of coffee, chocolate and sugar you use. As I have said before, the way you spend your food dollars is vitally important. And yet the cost is so little, to help millions of children.

I do think conservatives and libertarians are more selfish than liberals. I have said it before. Liberals by definition are always trying to help the downtrodden and do good works and regulate corporations so they do not totally destroy the environment. Liberatarians and conservatives believe in free markets, which are very destructive of third world peoples and landscapes. They want to preserve their capital, and protect their right to consume products that are harmful or produced in extremely unethical and cruel ways. It is not my goal to make this personal, but in response to your challenge to think more about children, Ionesco and I posted lots of ways to help children, and yet you did not seem excited about this at all. You wanted to help local children, and yet all the world's children need our help. So I am really perplexed as to what you want me to do at this point. Perhaps you could explain it in a different way so I can understand better.
