Ray, 10% unemployment for 2 years is hardly "vast economic dislocation" nor a "great period of unemployment". They are running at about that level in Germany and France now.

USA rates here: csls.ca

For the USA, 10% is abnormal, usually running at about 5%.

School teachers making a pittance? I suppose Americans have little idea what a real pittance looks like. Anyway, if they didn't like their pay rate, they could have gone and got another job. That's what sensible people do if the place where they are working isn't paying what they want, and can earn elsewhere.

People everywhere are having to adapt to changing economic activities. Industries start and dwindle. Jobs come and go.
