Who? Name one of those officers. This looks like more MSM BS to me.

The text from Josh Marshall is as follows:

--------------

"They all went bat s- - when that happened," recalled retired Army Lt. Gen. Jay M. Garner, a one-time Pentagon adviser who ran reconstruction efforts in Iraq in the spring of 2003. "The military part of [the defense secretary's office] has been politicized. If [officers] disagree, they are ostracized and their reputations are ruined."

...

Garner and 40 other Riggs supporters - including an unusually candid group of retired generals - are trying to help restore his rank.

------------------

So, Jay Garner is a named participant. And Marshall's use of the term "unusually candid" suggests the other 40 names are easily available.

Frankly, I don't see how it undermines the military. It's been public knowledge for a long time that the army leadership has problems with Rumsfeld. I can't recall a single secretary of defense that some element within the military didn't quarrel with. And publicly. The only difference is that the Bush administration insists on blind loyalty.

As for Memorial Day stuff, my wife's been telling me that it was called Decoration Day for some time. And in the midwest, one of the rituals was to decorate the graves of all family members, not simply the military ones.
