Carl Levin Press Release announcing Michigan Projects included in Defense Authorization Bill of May 13, 2005:

Under Advanced Technology Initiatives-Note the projects for both hybrid vehicles and fuel cell technologies-no companies specifically mentioned.

Under Research and Development Projects:

$10.0 million for continued development of solar cells on flexible substrates for space applications. New technology based on amorphous silicon materials has the potential to produce solar arrays that are ten times cheaper and three to lfive times lighter than current solar arrays. Enbergy Conversion Devices of Troy has been working with the Air Force on this project.

$2.5 million for research and development of lightweight portable solar panels for the Special Forces Command. This funding will support efforts to develop a durable, lightweight, triple junction solar power panels in a wearaable or portable mission electronics. Energy Conversion Devices of Troy has extensive experience in this field.
