I have never heard of any liberal expressing that sex offenders should get Viagra, so I have no idea what you are talking about. Liberals cover a very broad spectrum. My own personal opinion is that Viagra and drugs like it shouldn't be covered at all. And you are getting the concept of being a liberal mixed up with being a socialist, while the two are completely distinct. While the Europeans are having mostly demographically-based problems because their populations are aging, there is no indication that government programs like paid maternity leaves and national health insurance are causing problems. Programs like these create healthy children and strong families. Europeans for the most part accept the trade off for the expansive safety nets. Their taxes are much higher than ours. You are specifically talking about unemployment benefits, and as I understand it, they are making some adjustments with these. America's safety net is close to nonexistent compared with European countries. If it does not exist for our grandchildren, the three hundred billion dollar war in Iraq and Bush's other adventures, along with ridiculous tax cuts for the rich, will certainly be part of why that is.
