Paul: All the 14+ MM for TTRIF are "wholesalers"--no retail brokerage houses make a market in it. A MM does not have to borrow the stock to short, neither does he have to sell on an uptick like you or I do. A MM can sell "naked" shorts--sell stock he doesn't have--planning to buy back later at a lower price from another MM or on the open market. This works OK as long as the stock is going down or can be driven down, but has obviously potential for disaster if the stock begins to run up. As an aside, I dont know of any retail brokers who will let you short a stock they dont hold, i.e. no naked shorts--so I dont see what this restricted status accomplishes.

>How long can a the shorts keep borrowing stock to keep driving it down?< They (non MM) can do it as long as their broker has stock on hand in margin accts to lend for short selling--I guess several million more shares! But realistically who is going to short a stock at 1.50? Would you?

After all above is said, I really dont think that the short pos. is a large factor in this huge vol we're seeing--Simply put there are a large # of sellers and a few more buyers, hence the small price rise lately. If we see the selling dry up appreciably, we could see a fast run up at any time. At least this is what I'm hoping for.

Here's hoping!

Gary

PS short sellers are not stupid, so who is shorting a quarter before expected profitability of TTRIF?
