Your best proxy for this divide, as picked up by pollsters in the last election, was between people who attended church (or synagogue) at least once a week, and those who didn't. I recognize this particular divide and agree with you on how to size the sides in it. But if that was what Card was talking about in that essay, he sure hid it well. Patriotism as a proxy for dirty movies and abortion is way past subtle.
