I committed the grave antipartisan sin after 9/11 of researching the most common causes of death in the US and pointing out how we tolerate multiple WTC death levels routinely due to equally preventable negligence and aggression - drunk driving and handguns were the top two I found.

Since Iraq has only 1/10th our population, losing hundreds of citizens to urban car bombs monthly would be equivalent to our losing a few thousand monthly in grisly mass deaths where we work and shop.

That would get our attention. As an aside, the fact that Al Qaeda didn't undertake a mass civilian bombing campaign in the US after 9/11 (shopping malls, schools, traffic jams, crowded city plazas, subways, etc.) made me think they are much more interested in controlling Mecca than Manhattan. But that's another topic.
