Hope you don't mind that I followed you over here. <g> Based on what I read, I'm not as hopeful as you are. It appears that one poster has already been banned for pointing to a news story that contradicts an opinion advanced by the thread monitor. It seems to me that that is not a good sign.

I know little about the person banned (Brumar89) and suspect that he may be a partisan conservative, but I found his posts here informative and relatively inoffensive (by SI standards). Perhaps he was banned for a history of highly partisan behavior elsewhere. In that event, it appears that the traditional SI "double-standard" (only banning those whose viewpoints are different) prevails here as well. Left-leaning posters with long histories of extreme partisanship have been welcomed and encouraged.
