and many will pay for ph d's schooling too.

I was amazed when a company we all are very familiar with paid for my Son-in-law's legal education. He as an EE who had been recruited out of CalState Fullerton. After five years they made him an offer to work at his EE salary as a clerk in the legal department and go to Law school at their expense. They were in hopes that he would become a house attorney in their patent section.

He got the degree, passed the bar, and went to work for a large law firm instead.
