I see it as opening the door for civil war, which will kill many more people than Saddam ever did.

Could happen, of course. But we're got a long, long, long way to go to even approach Saddam's death toll.

If we even know how many that was. There were no imbedded reporters showing the number of people dead in the gassing of the Kurds or documenting his treatment and slaughter (after sufficient hours, days, weeks, or months of tourture) of political prisoners.
