Doug,

When you ignite an air fuel mixture in a cylinder a defined amount of energy is released. The compression pressure to the exhaust is the energy released that is recovered by the expansion of the cylinder against the crank shaft. The metallurgy has nothing to do with this energy release and recovery. If any efficiency at all could be achieved it would be through a reduction in friction.

Do you not find it strange to find such a great technological break through in such a non technical publication. The claim is laughable!
