I wouldn't disagree. The government no longer imposes medieval theological restrictions on all the countries women. That is a good thing no matter how you look at it.

But it is and always has been a primitive country. And families and informal social restrctions out in the boonies (most of the country) may well be primitive for decades.

I wonder what Amnesty Intl is saying about the Sudanese genocidal ethnic cleansing of the Darfurian black tribes? The UN emergency relief coordinator recently said 180,000 have been slaughtered in the last 18 months. And 2 million driven out of their homes.
