Believing in moral absolutes is not totalitarianism on the personal level.

"Totalitarianism" is a political term.

Personal relationships can be authoritarian. You have authoritarian religions, authoritarian parents, authoritarian teachers, authoritarian bosses, authoritarian marriages, authoritarian thread heads, etc.--somebody makes the rules and somebody else knuckles under.

The problem with absolute moral values (and I'm disappointed that Krauthammer doesn't seem to recogize it) is that they are inherently authoritarian and, to make matters worse, the authority is outside the scope of influence by the underling.
